BOTOX®
Botulinum toxin A is the neurotoxin made by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. There are other similar products on the market, but we find Allergan's product most effective and well tolerated. The mechanism of action for all are at the neuromuscular junction by preventing muscle contractions. Medical uses of botulinum toxin include treating spasms around the eyes, neck and limbs; migraine; urinary incontinence; and excessive underarm sweating. Used cosmetically, it allows the muscle to relax so that the skin softens over the muscle, alleviating the wrinkles that are visible with active muscle contractions.
Revance Therapeutics
A product that is not yet available tauts a longer duration of action, but increasing the dose of Botox makes it last longer too. DaxibotulinumtoxinA the Biologics License Application (BLA) for DAXI in the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar (frown) lines has been accepted for review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In its correspondence, FDA stated that no potential filing review issues were identified. The FDA set an action date of November 25, 2020 under the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA)
Tips to Prolong BOTOX®
EXTRA ZINC
Some studies have shown that Botox efficacy is linked to zinc levels within the body. Also, many individuals tend to have a slight zinc deficiency. Regularly taking a zinc supplement after your Botox treatment may prolong the anti-aging effects.
PROTECTION ENVIRONMENTAL
The sun’s UV rays can make plants and your wrinkles grow. The ionizing radiation can actually reverse the benefits of your injectable treatments (not just Botox)? We offer several good sunscreens to maintain your results longer. Also avoid the outdoors during peak UV hours and wear a wide-brimmed hat. Antioxidants, like Vit C, can prevent free radicals from pollution and smoke, like cigarettes and other sources, from damaging the skin.
SKIN CARE
The benefits of injectables (like many other cosmetic treatments) will last longer for individuals who properly take care of their skin. Patients who moisturize daily and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water will enhance the water-absorption effect of hyaluronic-based fillers, helping treated areas remain plump and wrinkle-free! Some of our skin care products help fine lines similar to Botox. They are most helpful around the eyes. Examples include Bion Youthful Eyes and ZO Serum Growth Factor & Daily Power Defense .
EATING RIGHT
The food you eat may directly affect both the appearance and health of your skin. To help results of your Botox and filler we encourage you to stay away from processed and packaged foods, as well as limiting the amount of sugar in your diet. Foods like green tea and berries are a good substitute to sugar, and other antioxidants in colored vegetables are beneficial.
STRESS LESS
Stress is a common factor of day-to-day life. Whether stemming from your career, relationship, or finances, stress can negatively affect the body in many ways. In terms of the skin, high stress levels release of cortisol and other hormones which accelerate the aging process and rapidly enhance common unwanted signs of aging. To extend the benefits of your injectable try to reduce unnecessary stress-inducers form your life while incorporating stress relief techniques like prayer, meditation or yoga into your day. Also, cortisol levels can be checked as well as other hormones to see if there may be hormone replacement options.
MAINTENANCE TREATMENTS
The best way to extend the life of your Botox or filler results is to regularly undergo “maintenance” treatments before your results wear off. Recurrent treatments are especially useful for Botox as they may actually train targeted muscles to respond to the neurotoxin for longer periods of time. Also, we use a MicroBotox treatment that is painless and infuses the Botox superficially. This is for those very fine lines in older skin. It is also good to shrink pore and control oil from affecting acetylcholine receptors in the skin.
